Jazz pianist and Cabaret performer
My Life in Jazz
I’ve been entertaining at the piano for over 30 years, in a career which has taken in more variety than even I can fully grasp. I’ve played for distinguished clientele at The American Bar at The Savoy, The Ritz, The Waldorf, The Dorchester, Claridges and The Ivy. I’ve had residencies at The Oak Room Restaurant in Piccadilly, The Green Room at The Cafe Royal, and I was resident pianist and music consultant at the prestigious Wentworth Club for 14 years.
I’ve played cabaret in theatres in New York, London and Cape Town, both as a solo act and with my band Red Hot and Blue, with whom I appear regularly at events and concerts throughout the UK. I’m currently touring a production of Choice Grenfell playing pianist William Blezzard with my theatre company Kick In The Head. I have two more shows in the works: Musically Speaking, a celebration of classic Broadway and West End music with former Phantom lead Maria Kesselman, and Kings of the Keys, in which I’ll be side-by-side at the keyboard with Gareth Giles. My solo show about Cole Porter, You’re The Top is also taking bookings.
I’m a Brit, a member of the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, and I love that I can spend every day making music for the entertainment of others. I especially enjoy sharing my passion for the Great American Songbook and its ilk, but in a quintessentially British style: the likes of Cole Porter, Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hart and the late Michel Legrand, to name but a few.
